February 2010 Newsletter
Next City Meeting:
Thursday, February 11
City Hall 7:30 pm
TEEN TALK
If you might be available to shovel a driveway or mow a lawn, babysit, walk a dog, rake leaves--that sort of occasional job--and would want your contact info listed in the newsletter occasionally, send Sally Price an e-mail (ssprice109@lycos.com) with your name and phone number (and your skill) so that homeowners in the City could get in touch with you.
POLICE CORNER
2 warnings/requests repeated :
Any car parked on the street is subject to being towed if snow is forecast.
Residents are being ticketed for rolling through stop signs.
A reward is being offered for information leading to arrest & conviction of persons involved in the theft of the Blowing Tree street sign. Please notify Chief Redman if you spot our signs on eBay, Craig’s List, or at a yard or garage sale.
1/27 – sign post damaged by auto on Blowing Tree by apartments during snow. Temporary repairs have been made; the globe on Blowing Tree was straightened again.
2/01 – Graffiti cleaned from Block Watch sign on Old Hurstbourne Circle.
The Mayor attempted “political satire” in the last monthly newsletter, concerning the cable bill. He encouraged Jim Lynch to catch up on paying his share of taxes. This was again misguided because the cable bill is not in my name. The cable bill is a serious matter and if your cable bill does not have the Sean Fore name and phone number on the back, notify the Mayor because your fees are going to Metro Louisville instead of Hurstbourne Acres.
Commissioner Jim Lynch
Large Item Pick Up
Rumpke will pick up one large item per resident on Friday of each week. If you put out more items in front of your house they will only pick up one of them. Reminder: The sanitation trucks can come anytime after 6 a.m. so let's all be prepared.

COMMITTEE REPORTS
Police
In Commissioner Dunn’s absence, Mayor Fore read a letter from him expressing his thanks to DirtWorks for the job done during the last snow event. The letter also answered questions that had been presented by residents regarding the choice of road treatments that had been or might have been used.
Security Camera Presentation
For the City to consider, Mayor Fore asked representatives from ‘Complete Surveillance Integration’ to present the costs and benefits to the City for installing security cameras.
Roads and Lighting
Commissioner Lynch discussed the situation with the sign on Blowing Tree Road and will provide specific plans during next month’s meeting.
Parks Commissioner
Commissioner Hardin had nothing about which to report.
Sanitation
Commissioner Renninger reported that recent service had been good, with no real problems.
OLD BUSINESS
Clean-up Complete
It was confirmed that the clean-up of the house in the City that had been briefly used as a meth lab is now complete. It was also mentioned that the clean-up was paid for by the homeowner, not the City.
Nunnlea Generator
After further discussion about contributing $2,500 for the purchase and installation of a natural gas generator at Nunnlea for use by residents during power outages, a motion was made by Commissioner Hardin to postpone the decision until Commissioner Dunn returns. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Renninger and passed unopposed.
Miscellaneous
Commissioner Renninger, along with the other Commissioners, wanted to assure residents that no special favors or actions will be given to the City Commissioners by the Police Department. In other news, Commissioners Hardin and Dunn will be assigned the duty to evaluate the possibility of moving the City Hall into the main subdivision and furnish a tentative report at next month’s meeting. Also, the noise problem caused by early garbage pickup was addressed.
NEW BUSINESS
McMahan Fire Protection
Mayor Fore read a letter from the McMahan Fire Department requesting help from cities within the fire district to raise $13,428 in matching funds offered by a grant. The money will be used to purchase firefighters’ safety equipment designed to locate firefighters who are trapped or otherwise incapacitated. Each City is being asked to contribute $2,000 toward the matching funds. After discussion by the Commission, and under the condition that the money only be applied for the reason outlined above, Commissioner Lynch made a motion to approve as requested. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Renninger and passed without opposition.
Recoup of Money for Accreditation
Mayor Fore confirmed that Commissioner Renninger and Police Chief Redman are working on recouping the money spent by the City to get accredited. The recoupment funds are to come from a grant from the Kentucky League of Cities.
Annual Audit Completed
Mayor Fore reported that the city audit has been returned, and we have been given a clean bill of health. A fixed asset report will be forthcoming at next month’s meeting.
There being no further business or discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Michael Bolten, City Clerk
