Attorney’s Report

Attorney Emery reported that he contacted IPL (Inspections, Permits, and Licenses), but was advised that nothing further about the investigation of the home on Addington could be shared as it remains ongoing.  Police Chief Redman speaks weekly with the investigators to monitor the situation.  It was also mentioned that ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) has or is in the process of deporting the four individuals who were subsequently arrested.

Commissioner Lynch was asked by a resident about the progress of having ‘Do Not Block the Intersection’ hatch marks painted at the north or south end of Hurstbourne Circle.  Mayor Fore requested that the attorney’s office check and determine what is involved in getting this done, if possible.

Police Report

Police Chief Redman provided the following report:

                -202 police hours from 01/18/08 to 02/14/08,

                -116 police/public contacts,

-1 citation issued (disregard of traffic control device),

-Video camera installed in the Police car.  All law enforcement interactions with the public will now be on video and audio.

-Ongoing investigation with ICE and IPL as mentioned in the Attorney’s Report,

-Eastern Jefferson County Police Chiefs are meeting to discuss crime trends/statistics in our part of the county.

Commissioner Nichols mentioned that two sections of the fence by the apartments were down.  Both Police Chief Redman and Commissioner Dunn have spoken to the manager, Kelly, but were advised that the approval to repair has to come from the corporate office.  Mayor Fore has requested that Police Chief talk to Kelly once again.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Police Commissioner

Commissioner Dunn indicated that the Police Chief’s patrol hours continue to be varied as needed.  It was also reported that there have been no significant problems in the inner residential parts of the City.  However, the peripheral areas, such as at Speed Way and at the apartment complexes, continue to have issues, but are monitored daily by the Police Chief.  Finally, it was mentioned that Police Chief Redman will be on vacation from 3/7/08 to 3/18/08.  The Mayor of the City of Lincolnshire, with whom we have an inter-local agreement to provide police protection, has already been contacted.

Sanitation

Commissioner Lynch advised that there was one missed pickup this past month.  The only other recurring problem is with the trash at the back and side of Pier One.  Both Police Chief Redman and Commissioner Lynch have talked with the manager at Pier One on several occasions.

Parks

Commissioner Hardin indicated that some trees were down in the park and on Blowing Tree.  They will be cut up and removed when weather permits.  Finally, Commissioner Dunn advised that the Easter Egg Hunt in the park will be on March 22 beginning at 11:00 AM.

Roads Commissioner

Concerning the suggestion of amending the name of Hurstbourne Lane to ‘Old’ Hurstbourne Lane, Commissioner Nichols found that there wasn’t any significant interest, so the issue has been closed.

OLD BUSINESS

City Rebate

In answer to a question from Mayor Fore, Attorney Emery said that there has been no reply to the letter sent to the Kentucky League of Cities.  If there is no answer within the next 30 days, Mayor Fore advised that he would close the matter.

Snow Removal Concerns

Mayor Fore confirmed that he has received the required Certificate of Insurance and the ‘material data safety sheet’ from the vendor.  The data sheet indicated that ‘ice melt’ was used, not rock salt, during the recent snow falls.  Commissioner Dunn made a comment that the vendor did an outstanding job this past week with the snow and ice weather conditions.  The vendor had provided service to the city six times during that two-day period, with many positive responses from residents.

$50,000 in CD

The current funds are in a money market for 30 days earning about 6%.  After further discussion, it was recommended that we leave it where it is for another 30 days.

Survey of Old Powerhouse Lane & Berm Update

As requested in last month’s meeting, Attorney Emery provided city maps/surveys to the Commissioners to answer questions about ownership and boundaries of the city.

There being no further business or discussion, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Michael Bolten, City Clerk
