City Web Page

The City of Hurstbourne Acres has a city web page.  It is full of very useful information.  On this web page you will find copies of city ordinances, newsletters, contact information for all city officials and minutes from the city meetings.  The police page has just been updated: it contains contact information for many agencies.  This web site has been put together with our residents in mind.  Josh Price, our webmaster, is doing a great

job.  Please check it out:

Our Police Department has applied for several grants for equipment and funding.  We are moving towards our accreditation.

We have interviewed a number of excellent candidates for our second police officer. We hope to have a decision soon.                                                   Marty Dunn

Yard Waste

Please do not overload your yard waste bags.  Rule of thumb should be, if you cannot pick it up then chances are Rumpke will not be able to pick it up either.  We have a new person on the Friday Rumpke truck and we had many skips on Friday, June 26.  After a call was placed to Rumpke they did come back through the neighborhood.  If you need to contact Rumpke  call 568-3800.                                          Teresa Renninger

Streets & Lights

Limbs & branches have been trimmed from the walkway along the brick wall on Hurstbourne at the rear of the shopping center at the request of a resident.

Bids are being taken for the repair of Cardwell Way’s street damage and a new speed bump for Blowing Tree.

Chief Redman and I straightened up the stop signs at five corner locations.  These were loose because of the wind storm.                                                Jim Lynch

Insurance Tax Premiums

The State of Kentucky levies a tax on all insurance premiums.  A portion of this tax is returned to our City. If your insurance company is not aware that you live in Hurstbourne Acres, all tax revenue will go to Metro Louisville by default.  Please make sure your insurance company is aware you live in Hurstbourne Acres; this revenue allows us to keep your property tax rate extremely low.                        Teresa Renninger

Attorney’s Report

City Attorney John F. Stewart confirmed that a letter was sent from the attorney’s office to Hunnington Place regarding the ‘agricultural nursery’ operation being conducted there in conflict with city deed restrictions.  The business in question advised that they had not been told to ‘cease & desist‘.  Attorney Stewart is further researching to verify that the agricultural business is specifically part of the deed restrictions.

In other news, there is nothing more to report at this time concerning the zoning issues with the property on Addington.  In answer to questions from one of the residents at the meeting, Mayor Fore provided assurance that the city is doing all it can to resolve this situation.

Kentucky Farm Bureau is requesting more land for an additional parking lot.  Only one remaining property tax bill from last year has not yet been paid (commercial property), and has not paid any outstanding attorney fees.

Roads Commissioner

Commissioner Lynch advised that before the ‘Do Not Block Intersection’ sign can be painted on Hurstbourne Parkway, a permit from the State Highway Department is needed.  A state engineer is being sent to evaluate and hopefully provide the city with the necessary approval.  In other news, it was reported that a street light on Cardwell Way is out, there was vandalism to a stop sign on Cardwell Way which has since been handled.  Also, on Cardwell Way, a repair project is needed as discussed in prior month’s meetings.  Finally, vandalism was reported in the city park to signs, picnic tables/benches and playground equipment.

Parks Commissioner

Commissioner Hardin advised that the damaged trees have been cut down, removed, and recycled.  Concerning the vandalism to the park and subsequent damage, Mayor Fore asked Attorney Stewart to research the penalties under the state/county ordinances and report back next month.  Finally, Commissioner Hardin reminded everyone of the upcoming city-wide yard sale on Saturday, 6/13/09.

Sanitation Commissioner

In Commissioner Renninger’s absence, she left a report which stated that there had been several skips on yard waste day in early June, but believes it has been resolved.

OLD BUSINESS

Cardwell Way Drainage

Mayor Fore provided an update regarding the drainage issue on Cardwell Way.  He had written a letter to the Commissioner of the School Board who has replied that the Jefferson County Grounds Department will be installing a ‘French Drain System’ within the next few weeks.

FEMA Funds

Mayor Fore advised that the city has been notified that Jefferson County was not declared a disaster area during the ice storms in January. Therefore, the city does not qualify for any FEMA Funds.

Miscellaneous

Treasurer Price confirmed that he has not received any invoices from Nunnlea for the cleanout of the ditch in front.  In answer to a concern presented in the meeting by a resident, Sally Price has been asked to include in the newsletter a column about bike riding safety.

With no further discussions or questions, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Michael Bolten, City Clerk
