September 2005 Newsletter
Just FYI, a “2nd Notice” will go out this week to a few remaining individuals as a reminder that their taxes are still unpaid. Note that any property tax payments received after 10/1 include a penalty.
We are a blessed nation.
In response to the overwhelming needs of the victims of Hurricane Katrina, the City of Hurstbourne Acres is canceling its annual picnic and will send to the Red Cross the funds that were allocated to the picnic.
I know that these victims are in our hearts and prayers. I thank you for your support and understanding.
We are a blessed nation.
Sean Fore, Mayor
Police Search Committee Update:
There was a good response to the City’s request for applications and, after several meetings and interviews, the field has been narrowed to 4-5 applicants. The Search Committee meets again on Wednesday night and hopefully will have a final decision that can be announced at Thursday’s regular meeting.

Volunteers are needed to help rake the sand in the playground and help install the new landscaping timbers. Concerning the city picnic, it was noted that ‘QueMaster Barbecue’ will be providing the catering, 6 picnic tables will be power washed and sealed, ‘Corn Island Band’ will be providing the music, tents will be rented, inflatable slides will be available, ‘Party Ponies’ has been contacted to offer pony rides, ‘Carvel Ice Cream’ will be offered, drinks will be provided, and door prizes will be awarded. Roads--Commissioner Nichols contacted Randy Goins with LG&E who is in charge of the Residential Lighting District’. He assured the city that the light at the end of Bristol would be fixed. It was finally fixed after a month. Regarding the light posts that need repairing, LG&E said that the light posts must first be marked with a plat before any repairs can be completed. This will be handled shortly.
NEW BUSINESS
MSD Presentation--MSD Executive Director Bud Schardein, and engineer Derek Guthrie, presented a report concerning 3 major challenges for the future. The challenges discussed were the rehabilitation of the aging sewer system as the combined and sanitary sewer overflows are eliminated, continuing Project DRI, which addresses neighborhood drainage problems, and the rehabilitation of the Ohio River Flood Protection System. In response to concerns about drainage problems in our city, Bud Schardein provided the Commission with phone numbers so that the Mayor can set up an appointment.
Miscellaneous--A new resident of Hurstbourne Circle who was at the meeting, questioned the need to have the ‘No Parking’ signs painted in front of his house when they were not previously extended that far. Mayor Fore said that he would personally view the situation and discuss with the Commission. In other news, another resident at the meeting mentioned a problem with garbage dumpster pickup early in the morning at Taylorhurst. Finally, in answer to a resident’s question about possible ‘speed humps’, Commissioners Dunn & Nichols provided the background. No decision has been made regarding the installation.
There being no further business or discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Michael Bolten, City Clerk
