Yard Waste

Yard waste is collected each Friday.  Rumpke will take up to 10 bags, bundles or cans of yard waste per week but only a total of 10.  Please make sure all yard waste is placed at the end of your driveway in one location.  We do not have backdoor service for yard waste.                                      Teresa Renninger

CITY PICNIC

 

Sunday, September 13

2 – 6 p.m.

“rain or shine”

 

2 pm      Classic Fire Truck Parade – Assemble at 2 pm at the entrance to the Park.  The fire truck will be ready to move with children abore.  Decorate your bikes, etc. and follow the truck through the inner city.

3 pm      Opening Ceremony – Honor Guard, The American Legion G.I. Post, at our park flag

3:30 pm  Crazy Hat Contest – The young ladies ages 3 to 7 and 8 to 10 are welcome to participate.  Parents or grandparents, help your young lady decorate a hat with crazy trim and win a prize for the best hat.  Judging will be at 3:30.

2 to 5 pm  Music – 3-piece band and singing

2:30 – 4 pm         Twist the Clown (new this year)

                                Balloons & Face Painting (small kids)

2 – 4 pm               Corn Hole            for all ages

                                Mayor’s Golf Contest   prizes for  

                                                      juniors, ladies, and men

4 pm      FOOD provided by “Old Hickory Pit” BBQ

                ribs, chicken & fixings

                ice cream and beverages

 

please bring a dessert for 6—

and your chairs -  and a card table if you wish

 

The Sheriff’s Office will be at the picnic if you want to have your child ID-fingerprinted & photographed, for their protection.  Photos & fingerprints are kept on file and can be used immediately if needed. 

 

If you know someone confined to their home or unable to attend the picnic, please give mea call (491-6142) with their name & address, and a meal will be delivered to them.

Minutes                                            August 13, 2009

The regular meeting of the City Commission was called to order at 7:30 PM on August 13, 2009 at the meeting room of the Hurstbourne Acres City Hall/Police Department, 1940 S. Hurstbourne Parkway, Louisville, Kentucky, with the following persons present;:

Minutes for Meeting on July 9, 2009

Commissioner Dunn made a motion to accept the minutes as read.  The motion was seconded by Commissioner Lynch and passed without opposition.

 

Treasurer’s Report

John Price read the treasurer’s report for July, 2009 and copies were made available for all people in attendance.  Commissioner Dunn then made a motion to approve as read.  The motion was seconded by Commissioner Lynch and passed unanimously.

 

Warrants

The warrants for July, 2009 were then read by John Price, and copies were made available for all people in attendance.  After discussion, Commissioner Dunn made a motion to approve payment of the warrants, which was seconded by Commissioner Lynch and passed unopposed.

 

Police Report

Police Commissioner Dunn provided the following report:

            -280 police hours from 07/09/09 to 08/13/09,

            -0 arrest,

            -2 citations,

            -7 reports,

            -8 traffic stops,

            -2 field interrogations,

            -6 motorist assists,

            -17 suspicious persons,

In other news, the accreditation process is continuing, the city assisted with the East Chase Apartments fire on 8/4/09, and a second police officer has been hired, Sargeant Steve Skaggs.  It was acknowledged that $3200 has been received from Homeland Security for Police Department equipment.

 

Attorney’s Report

After review and discussion concerning the proposed parking ordinance prepared by the city attorney, Commissioner Dunn suggested that the completion of the first reading be postponed until next month’s meeting.  The other item of discussion concerned the disposition of the house on Addington.  The legal situation has concluded with a verdict of guilty entered into the record for the owner’s violations of zoning laws.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Police Commissioner

Commissioner Dunn advised that there was nothing more about which to report beyond the Police Chief’s report.

 

Roads Commissioner

LG&E has been called twice about a shield for one of the lights on Woodfield that needs replacing.  The broken pole on Bristol has been repaired.  Regarding the damage to the circle on Cardwell Way, Commissioner Lynch was looking at some landscaping ideas. He also mentioned the possibility of placing protective posts to prevent future damage.  Finally, there was discussion about placing speed humps on Hurstbourne Lane.  Mayor Fore offered to walk door to door with Commissioner Lynch to ask the opinions of the residents on the street.

 

Parks Commissioner

Commissioner Hardin provided some details about the upcoming annual city picnic to be held on 9/13/09, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  The fire engine will be there, barbecue will again be served, along with soft drinks and ice cream, the band will be back, there will be face painting, balloons for the children, golf contest, and crazy hat contest.  Due to insurance reasons, there will not be the inflatables.  The trees down in the park will be removed prior to the picnic.  It was also reported that the roof of the shed in the park has been replaced.

 

Sanitation Commissioner

Commissioner Renninger advised that there were 14 skips this past month.  There was another request from a resident for the large garbage cans, and two requests for recycle bins with lids.

 

OLD BUSINESS

Ordinance #4, 2nd Reading

Commissioner Dunn made a motion to have the 2nd reading of Ordinance #4, Series 2009, Regulating the Use of the City Park Property.  The motion was seconded by Commissioner Hardin and passed without opposition.  Mayor Fore then completed the second reading.  Commissioner Dunn made a motion to enact and ordain which was seconded by Commissioner Hardin.  The motion passed unanimously.

 

Miscellaneous

In answer to questions about the ‘Do Not Block Intersection’ painted stripes on Hurstbourne Parkway, Commissioner Lynch had no further updates to provide.  Additional information and permits are still needed.  In other news, Commissioner Lynch confirmed that Nunnlea has not yet furnished the invoice for clearing the ditch in front running along Hurstbourne Parkway.

 

NEW BUSINESS

Mowing Contract

Mayor Fore outlined the proposed upcoming mowing contract through StumpBusters.  A certificate of insurance is still forthcoming.  It was noted that the contract essentially remains unchanged.  After a discussion, Commissioner Hardin made a motion to accept as discussed.  Commissioner Dunn seconded the motion, which then passed unopposed. 

 

Scott Horan

Commissioner Renninger presented information on the person who will be handling our city’s computer needs.  She explained his background, qualifications and experience.  A formal contract will be presented at next month’s meeting, at which time Mr. Horan, who could not make it for this meeting, will be introduced.  In answer to a question about testifying for the city as it relates to his job, Mr. Horan indicated to Commissioner Renninger that he would be willing to obtain forensic certification at his own expense.

 

Presentation to Bill Renninger

For the continued efforts by Bill Renninger to make our community safer and a better place to live, the city awarded him with a Certificate of Appreciation.  Most recently, he assisted in the coordination of fire fighters at the apartment fire on 8/4/09.

 

With no further questions or discussion, the meeting was adjourned.
