Picnic 2008

World of thanks to the neighbors who helped to make the 2008 picinc one of the best ones.

Thanks to Commissioner Jim Lynch and Bill Heck, Mayor Fore, Commissioner Dunn and the American Legion G.I. Post for their help.  Thanks to Betty Hardin, Linda Schneider and Sarah Lynch for helping with the name tags and tickets.  Preparations for this picnic take hours and days, and I am very appreciative of their help.

This year another new event was added—the “Crazy Hat” contest for young ladies 3-7 and 8-10 years of age.  The judges, Chairlady Norma Pennington and her daughter Vickie Kemp, did an astonishing job of judging this contest.  The first-place winners were Claire and Charlotte Binford.  Second-place winners were Amanda Josberger and Annie Zinser.  I believe next year this event will be even bigger.

The weather, music, food, drinks and desserts were excellent.  Everyone that I talked to enjoyed themselves and had a great time.  I’m looking forward to 2009.

Park Commission

From Chief Redman:

Halloween is a fun time for kids and adults alike. I would like to take a minute to remind folks of some Halloween safety tips:

1) Please check all your child's candy before ingestion. It only takes a few seconds and could save a trip to the emergency room!

2) While walking with your child on Halloween, be aware of traffic. Bring a flashlight and cell phone with you. The Hurstbourne Acres Police Department will provide chemical lights for those who need them. Please call Chief Redman at 802-0226.

The next Blockwatch meeting will be on October 16 at 6:30pm. The location is City Hall.

The Blockwatch Captains and the Hurstbourne Acres Police Department will be walking the City in the month of October.  Please feel free to express your crime concerns to us.  It takes all of us to fight crime!

The Hurstbourne Acres Police Department will also be sponsoring "Operation Child ID" for the month of October.  If you have a child in the City of Hurstbourne Acres, please call Chief Redman at 802-0226.  He will come to your residence and fingerprint your child and go over the Child ID kit with you.  You will need to keep this kit and fingerprint in a secure place.

To Protect and Serve,

Chief Christian Redman
